Who are the Partner Universities?<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Masters Program will be jointly developed, managed and accredited by the Universities of Stuttgart and Ain Shams (Cairo). \u00a0The two universities enjoy a long-standing and successful academic collaboration and a number of joint research activities. This includes an intensive exchange between Stuttgart University\u2019s Institute of Landscape Planning and Ecology (ILP\u00d6) and the Urban Planning Department of Ain Shams University in Cairo in the context of the EU Tempus project \u00abCurriculum for Environmental Impact Assessment Courses (CEIAC)\u00bb, which has been running since 2007. Stuttgart\u2019s Urban Planning Institute has organized a number of bilateral colloquia on a range of topics, including most recently the \u00abStrategic Planning + Sustainable Urban Development\u00bb colloquium in April 2009 in Cairo und in July 2009 in Stuttgart, which provided a platform for exchange between participants from both universities as well as from both municipal authorities and other institutions. Further collaboration between the universities, local authorities and industry in Egypt were funded under the auspices of the city partnership between Stuttgart and Cairo, which was founded in 1979.<\/span><\/p>\n

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n
The installation of the IUSD program is supported by DAAD through:<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022 Providing up to 30 study grants to applicants from Germany, Egypt and MENA\u00a0countries (see also section Application)<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0Extracurricular workshops and summer schools in Germany and Egypt\u00a0<\/span>open to IUSD students<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0Installation of state-of-the-art CAD and GIS equipment and video\u00a0<\/span>conferencing facilities to benefit students of IUSD at Stuttgart University\u00a0<\/span>and Ain Shams University.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0Travel grants and staff mobility between Stuttgart and Cairo to ensure\u00a0<\/span>close cooperation of both universities throughout the Masters Program.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022 (2011-2016) via The GAMP\u00a0network<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0(German-Arab Masters Programs).<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022 The\u00a0AGEP network<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0(German Association of Postgraduate Programmes with special Relevance to Developing Countries)<\/span><\/div>\n

External Partners<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n
The Masters Program will aim to forge strong links between the academic partners and a wide range of external partners including governmental bodies, professional associations, key actors from the German development cooperation, ongoing international research activities and industry. External partners will be involved not only in the concept development phase (identification of teaching priorities); they will also be included in the teaching curriculum through lecture and presentations or host integrated design exercises and the Masters Thesis (see info on planned curriculum below). In this way, students will benefit both from a strong practice focus and also from potential career integration of graduates on completion of the Masters program.<\/span><\/div>\n
